Hi!
It’s been a while since the last time I wrote something (other than Instagram captions and tweets).
Today is April 24th, 2019 and the day is Wednesday. I woke up at 9 o’clock today because I was kinda exhausted from yesterday’s activities, mostly because of the running in the evening though.
The reason why I suddenly have the feeling to write again is because I watched something in Youtube earlier; one of Yes Theory‘s videos. It was about social decluttering.
What is social decluttering, you ask? In short, the video is about relieving one’s self of social media. Well, not social media per se. What originally drove the host to uninstall his social media for 30 days is the fact that the time he spent in a day using his phone can take up to 4-5 hours. He then decided to uninstall them, and replace the time he put into using them for something more beneficial. To name a few: reading books, surfing, jogging, meditating, and essentially, interacting with people directly without having to constantly check on his phone every so often.
The conclusion? He values time more than before. The social media has always been constructed to be used continuously. Based on the algorithms made, the apps take note on the things you “like”, “love”, “upvote”, etc. to produce contents that best suit to your preferences in order to see more of what you want to see. This information is what the social media corporate sell to content producers, businesses, organizations, and corporate to continue this never-ending cycle.
The video emphasized on how social media provides shortcut to social interaction and human perceptions by the assistance of other people through uploading contents in their social media, instead of interacting with them hands-on.
Therefore, seeing that I also experience the same, or at least near the same problem, I decided to briefly uninstall mine for 30 days in hope that I can substitute the time I had been spending on my phone to do other more productive things. This blog post is the first example of those.
Cheers.
p.s. you should really take a look into the video
